OBITUARY OF EDWARD S. ​ ZASADZINSKI

Edward "Mr. Z" Zasadzinski went home to the Lord on February 21, 2026. ​

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on July 23. ​ 1936 to Edward Zasadzinski and Stella Donikowski. ​ He is a 1954 graduate of Pompton Lakes High School, Pompton Lakes, N.J. ​ Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for ten years. ​ During his fifth year of service, he married Mildred Shahan of Madison, Ohio, December 1958. ​ Shortly after in the summer of 1959 they received orders and were on their way to Kenitra, Morocco. ​ Mildred taught first grade at the Dependents School and Edward was in charge of the power plant producing electricity for the entire base. ​ Their first son (Mark) was born in Morocco. ​

Their next assignment was to Charlestown, S.C., where he was responsible for repairing minesweeping cables. ​ Son (Bruce) was born at the Charlestown Naval Hospital. ​ He received an Honorable Discharge in 1964. ​ He attended Kent State University earning a B.S. ​ Education in 1968 and a Masters of Education in June of 1972. ​ He taught Industrial Electricity at Ashtabula H.S. ​ and at the Ashtabula County Vocational School. ​ His last 19 years in education were served as principal of the Auburn Career Center, Painesville, Ohio. ​

"Mr. Z" was very active in the community. ​ He was the past president of the:PTA of Spencer School, Geneva, ​Shawnee Square Dance Club, ​NE Ohio Rose Society, ​NE Ohio Supervisors Association, ​Ohio Supervisors Association, United Methodist Men of Park U.M.C. ​ Madison, Ohio, Chairman of the Park United Methodist Church, Madison, Ohio, ​Trustee of First Baptist Church, Jefferson, Ohio, ​Trustee of Henderson Public Library, Jefferson, Oh., ​NE Model Railroaders, and founded The Rose Society of Ashtabula County. ​

He and his family were members of the Y-Indian Guides, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts Toastmasters International, The Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, Office Education Clubs of America, First Baptist Church of Jefferson, and the Jefferson Community Center Pinochle group. ​ He is a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. ​

His greatest joy was visiting family. ​ He loved to create wooden furniture for home and make wooden toys for his grandchildren. ​ He built a large N-scale model railroad layout. ​ He ran trains and made realistic N-gauge scenery. ​

He is survived by his sons: Mark (Kenda) Zasadzinski, son Bruce (Felecia) Zasadzinski, , daughter Beth (Mike) Phillips; grandchildren: Tara Springer (Tyler), Zach (Marissa), Devin (Annette), Scott, Craig Poore (Mandy) and Holly Poore, Amanda (Derek), Kaitlyn (Dylan), and Laura (Bilal); great grandchildren: Makala, Andrew, Lzabelle, and Lillianna. ​ Also surviving are his sisters Bernice Frossard, Marcie Ayers and many, many nephews and nieces. ​

He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred of 64 years, his parents, his brothers Richard and Zachary and sister Stelle Brea. ​

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 24, 2026, at Fleming-Billman Funeral Home, 49 W. Jefferson Street, Jefferson; calling hours will be from 11:00-12:00 with the funeral service starting at 12:00.  Burial with military honors will follow in Madison Fairview Cemetery.
